Kim Kardashian recently revealed that she won’t be removing “West” from her name despite Kanye filing to legally change his name to Ye. But why did she take such decision amid their divorce? Let’s find out.
You probably must have learned that Kanye, whose legal name is currently Kanye Omari West, filed to legally change his name to his longtime stage and nickname, “Ye.” Consistent with the court documents obtained by People Magazine, Kanye said his decision to vary his name is thanks to personal reasons. And as longtime Kanye fans know, this is not the primary time he has expressed eagerness to be mentioned as just “Ye” rather than Kanye.
Back in 2018, he tweeted “the being formally referred to as Kanye West. I am YE.” But now he’s trying to make it official and Kim, who’s name remains Kim Kardashian West, reportedly shared her thoughts on the matter.
As fans know, Kim and Kanye filed for divorce back in February, but the duo are still co-parenting their four children. Kim and Kanye have continued to boost eyebrows about where exactly their relationship stands now, especially after Kanye rapped about Kim still being in love with him during one of his Donda sessions and the two of them having lunch together in Malibu shortly after news broke that Kanye had split from Irina Shayk.

Kim Kardashian has also shown her support for Kanye by attending those Donda listening parties and by posting and showing love on his birthday. But when it comes to changing her name, TMZ reported that Kim plans to keep “West” as a part of her name despite Kanye trying to change his name to just Ye.
According to sources on the brink of the couple, Kim will “not eliminate West from her name or the names of her children,” despite Kanye’s decision to try to to so. TMZ continued reporting that Kim feels “it’s important for her to have an equivalent surname for her four children, and there are not any plans to vary North, Psalm, Chicago and Saint’s last names, either.”

Some fans wondered if this had anything to do with Kim’s branding all being KKW. But as fans know, KKW Beauty is currently undergoing a rebrand, so we’re not even sure what it’ll be named going forward. It really does appear to be that Kim Kardashian just wants to have an equivalent name for her kids.
It’s no different than what Kris Jenner did after she and Caitlyn Jenner got divorced. That way Kylie and Kendall still have an equivalent name as their mom, a bit like North, Psalm, Chicago and Saint will. As for Kanye, still no word on whether his name has been approved by a judge, but consistent with TMZ, Kim fully supports his desire to be Ye.
