In an interview that Vanity Fair published earlier this month, Jake Gyllenhaal was the latest celebrity to share some insight into his hygiene routine. He told the Mag: “More and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times.”
He went on to say while sharing Elvis Costello’s lyrics, “I do believe, because Elvis Costello is wonderful, that good manners and bad breath get you nowhere. So I do that. But I do also think that there’s a whole world of not bathing that is also really helpful for skin maintenance, and we naturally clean ourselves.”
Jake isn’t the only A-lister with an anti-bath stance. Mila Kunis and husband Ashton Kutcher, recently revealed on Dax Shepard’s podcast, “Armchair Expert” that they do not wash their full bodies with soap every day.

Mila told Dax, “I don’t wash my body with soap every day.” She also revealed that when she had children, she also didn’t wash them every day. “I wasn’t the parent that bathed my newborns ever,” Mila said.
Ashton mirrored his wife’s habits, sharing that he washes his armpits and his crotch daily, and nothing else. Ashton went on to share that they only bathe their children if you can see the dirt on them, otherwise there’s no point.

Dax doubled down on the dirt when he visited The View with his wife Kristen Bell. In a somewhat joking tone, noting that he and Kristen sometimes forget to bathe their kids for five or six days.
Kristen took it even further adding, “Once you catch a whiff, that’s biology’s way of letting you know you need to clean it up. So I don’t hate what they’re doing. I wait for the stink.”
Surprisingly enough, NYC-based dermatologist Joshua Zeichner told Popsugar, “Under normal circumstances, showering every day is not necessary.” Adding, that you should wash areas like your face, groin, and underarms daily.
Anyways, not all stars are joining the anti-bath-wagon trend. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently responded to one user on Twitter who asked if he was part of this newfound club, he said: “Nope, I’m the opposite of a not washing themselves celeb.”

He outlined his bathing routine which includes a regular shower and face wash.
Is regular shower good for the body?
As you’ve already seen, many people including celebrities have divided opinion on this subject. While some people think it’s necessary to maintain a routine bathing habit to get rid of harmful microbes on the body, others think it’s beneficial to shower less to keep the good microbes on your skin.
Nature teaches us everyday why it is necessary to get a shower, but if you are not yet convinced by what it tells you, then it’s appropriate to consult a dermatologist.
