Maisie Williams got her start on Game of Thrones at just 12 years and has been pretty open about her mental struggles as a child on the GoT set. Starting a life of extreme fame at such a young age can be difficult to say the least.
It’s hard to believe that when Maisie began on Game of Thrones, she just played a little girl and by the end she was one of the most dangerous characters in the entire series. She has spent half of her life on the set of Game of Thrones and fans have watched her grow and mature into the eighth and final season.
Maisie mentioned that at the beginning of the show, she wasn’t very happy. She didn’t have a lot of friends on set and the show was very mature, so she had to stay in the school room working on homework while many of the scenes were being taped. Apparently the last few seasons gave her a bit of self-doubt more than when she started as a 12-year-old.
Although Maisie often felt lonely on set, she wasn’t ever truly alone. A beautiful thing that has come out of growing up on this show would have to be her friendship with Sophie Turner. The two started the show together and since then have become true sisters.
You might be wondering what Maisie’s other post Game of Thrones plans are.
Maisie is more than just an entertainer, she is also the ultimate creative who is full of innovative ideas. As of May 2019, she crowd funded 2.5 million dollars for one of her awesome new ideas. The young girl was involved in the development of an app called Daisy and it’s for something close to her heart.
Maisie says the reason for the app is simply to encourage people in a digital platform. She said: “I created Daisy in the hope to encourage other people starting out in the industry.” In the first 11 days of the platform’s release, it reached 100 thousand users. Seems like Maisie found a need and filled it seriously.
Game of Thrones ended in May of 2019 and while the world of GoT fans wept, we can’t give up hope just yet. Just because GoT is over doesn’t mean the actors and actresses won’t find ways to work with their Game of Thrones family again.
When the singer Freya Ridings released her music video in March of 2019, we were pleasantly surprised to see Maisie as the lead role. But even better, the music video was directed by her GoT co-star Lena Headey aka Cersei Lannister.
Freya said: “When I heard that Lena Headey and Maisie Williams wanted to work on the music video for the new single, I was beyond humble. This is a hugely personal and emotional song for me.” We love it when women come together and show the world a piece of powerful moving and intelligent artwork. That is just what these three women did on the music video.

Game of Thrones may have been Maisie’s first on-screen job, but it wasn’t her first audition. Before GoT, she had just tried out for a part in Nanny McPhee and little baby Maisie really had her heart set on it. When she didn’t get the part, her little heart was broken and she thought about just going back to school and quitting this whole acting thing.
If Maisie had received the part on Nanny McPhee, she would have never become Arya Stark. Can you even imagine someone else playing the role of Arya. We definitely can’t! It’s true what they say, “when one door closes another door opens.”
Things are definitely looking up for our Maisie Williams.
