Meghan Markle has made her mark on the world. She is committed to uplifting women and shining a light on world issues that are close to her heart.
Meghan made an impact on the world on her own even before she met her husband Prince Harry. She continues to use her platform to do as much good as she can when it comes to uplifting women and people of color and bringing attention to social injustice.
Earlier this year, Harry and Meghan made the tough decision to exit the royal family in order to focus on their own personal development and well-being. Despite leaving their royal duties, they continue to have major influence and are focused on lending their voices to issues that matter to them.
The couple have found a new home in Los Angeles where Meghan recently spoke to the graduating class at Immaculate Heart (her former high school) in a virtual commencement speech. During her speech, the Duchess of Sussex apologized to students for having to grow up in a world where racism is still an issue.
After her speech, the students took to social media to thank Megan and some even said that they were brought to tears by her words. Racial injustice is something that is very important to Meghan and her husband Prince Harry.
Town and Country Magazine reported that the couple have been having conversations with community leaders behind closed doors to understand how they can contribute to the black lives matter movement.
If Meghan was still a royal, she would not be able to speak publicly about politics. Royal author Nigel Cawthorn told Insider that the palace would not under any circumstances have allowed her to take a public stance on the U.S elections. The royals are supposed to be politically neutral, so they don’t traditionally participate in elections or speak about politics.
Since deciding to leave her position as a royal, Meghan has been very thoughtful about how she speaks about politics, encouraging women and people of color to use their voices to make an impact on their communities. Meghan has said it’s so important for her to empower women because she knows what it feels like to be voiceless.
Meghan’s focus on women and girls has been strong even before she was thrust further into the spotlight. After becoming a part of the royal family, she is a global ambassador for World Vision (the largest international children’s charity).
In 2016, Meghan traveled to Rwanda and experienced the impact that clean water has on the lives of children and communities across the African continent. She spent time learning about the challenges young women in the developing world face and understanding what is needed to address the challenges. She also visited a primary school where World Vision built water wells and toilets.
Meghan taught their students how to paint with watercolors, using the water sources in the community to paint pictures with the children. She encouraged them to paint pictures of what they dreamed to be when they grow up.
Meghan brought the paintings to Canada where she shared the stories at a World Water Day event called the Watercolor Project. The event raised $15k for world vision to build a new source for water for a whole community. This is yet another example of how Meghan uses her influence to bring betterment to those in need.
Laura Dewer, the former chief marketing and development officer of World Vision Canada said megan is a true humanitarian. In march of 2017, Meghan Markle wrote an op-ed piece for Time Magazine about how the lack of access to sanitary pads directly inhibits young women from pursuing education.
According to her, when women around the world are forced to miss school and work when they have their periods, it increases the risk of them dropping out and not continuing their education. She talked about a trip she took to India with World Vision where she met girls between 12 and 14 years old who were at risk of dropping out of school.
Meghan said a lot of the girls were embarrassed to go to school during their periods because they didn’t have proper sanitary products. She called out the lack of menstrual health hygiene and encouraged parents to start provoking change in these areas.

In 2017, she was introduced to the world as Prince Harry’s fiance and in her first royal speech, she opened up about her own challenges when it came to education. She delivered her speech at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji. Harper’s Bazaar described her speech as incredibly inspiring.
Meghan said everyone should be afforded the opportunity to receive the education they want because in order to change the social injustices the world faces today, we need to afford access to education to everyone.
The impact of Meghan Markle has no borders and she continuously aims to empower and uplift those in the developing world. While on a 10-day tour in Africa with her husband, she announced three new grants while visiting the University of Johannesburg.
According to Hello Magazine, she said the goal is to be able to support women as they are working in research and higher education roles. The gender grants that she announced applied to students from several Universities in South Africa.
Students at the university spoke about the impact that Meghan had on them. One of them said she has done so many things and contributed to the society especially to African society.
Meghan is a force of good doing what the world needs right now. She lends her voice to the voiceless and is committed to helping people who look like her get a seat at the table. Her commitment to making the world a better place is truly honourable and her impact when it comes to uplifting women and people of color is something we love to see.
