Nigerian artist Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has recently faced criticism from some Muslims for including a Quranic verse in one of his songs. The backlash was notably sparked by Saudi Arabian TikToker, Brother Kareem, who accused Asake of disrespecting Islam. Kareem emphasized that the use of sacred Islamic phrases like “Alhamdulillah” in music is inappropriate and offensive to the faith.

On TikTok, Brother Kareem posted a screenshot of the song’s lyrics, questioning Asake’s intentions and urging that he be cautioned. Although he acknowledged that some Muslims may not take offense to Asake’s actions, Kareem argued that disrespecting Allah is never acceptable, regardless of the individual’s intentions.
This isn’t the first time Asake, a 29-year-old Muslim from Lagos, has been caught in religious controversy. Previously, he angered many Christians when he donned a Catholic priest’s outfit in the video for his song “Only Me.”
TikTok users also weighed in on the controversy. Some, like @AskMissEllen, pointed out that “Music is haram in Islam,” while others, such as @LastGee, expressed frustration, asking Asake to stop incorporating religious elements into his music. Meanwhile, @Balikisaduke221 noted that Asake is not the only Muslim artist who has used Quranic verses in songs.
Reactions remain divided as the debate continues.
