You must be wondering, who could have possibly refused a role for the world famous HBO series “Game Of Thrones?”
While many A-list celebrities were dreaming of becoming a part of Game Of Thrones, there were some actors who decided not to play any role in the series. But who could have had the guts to turn down a role for Game Of Thrones?
Let’s get straight to the breakdown of all the actors who refused to be part of GOT and reasons why.
1. Lilly Allen
Lilly Allen who featured in “How To Build a Girl” was offered a role opposite to her brother Alfie Allen who played the role of Theon. She was asked to play the role of Yara Grey, but she turned it down straight away and we don’t seem surprised by that.
Acting opposite to your real life brother which also includes some touchy scenes could be really uncomfortable. This is what she told a source: “I felt uncomfortable because I would have had to go on a horse and he would have touched me up and once they told me what was entailed, I said no thanks.”
Though later Alfie Allen came forward and denied all the claims by his sister, but Lilly stood her ground. Was she lying or telling the truth?
2. Brian Cox
This 74-year-old Succession actor was also offered one of the roles in the early days of the series but he turned it down. Brian instantly regretted his decision about leaving the super hit series. The reason why he turned down the role was not enough money, but then gradually the production’s budget increased and all the actors in the series were highly paid.
This is what he had to say: “Stupidly, I turned it down in the early days because they didn’t pay enough money, now they have more money and I was silly.”
Not only that, the series went on to cast some of his friends and it made him even more sad. He waited for the call from Game Of Thrones but he didn’t get any.
3. Jennifer Ehle
This 51-year-old “Zero Dark Thirty” actress was offered the role of Caitlyn Stark, but guess what? She didn’t mind walking away from the role due to unavailability, due to a tight schedule and unavailability for the reshoots.
The role was then played by Michelle Fairley and she portrayed the best mother and wife role in the series. On the other hand, Jennifer went on to star in The King’s Speech and The Adjustment Bureau, not only that but she also got a role in the TV series A Gifted Man. Leaving a role for game of thrones didn’t seem to affect her acting career much.
4. Dominic West
The Affair actor was also offered a role in the Game Of Thrones series, am not sure about what the role was, but many people speculated that it was Mance Raider.

He didn’t know that the series would be a big hit and he turned down the role due to his family, as he is a father of four and staying away from them for a long time didn’t suit the Colette actor. He preferred to work in London but deeply regretted his decision when his nephew and father told him it’s the best show on TV.
5. Jaime Campbell Bower
This 31-year-old Harry Potter and Twilight actor was also offered the role of Knight’s watchman Wayner Royce, but he also turned down the role.
It was quite surprising coming from him, since he didn’t land on any groundbreaking roles since Harry Potter. But due to unavailability for the reshooting, he refused, though later he starred in Camelot and The Mortal Instrument. Leaving a role in Game Of Thrones didn’t seem to compensate. Do you think he did right by leaving the role?
6. Jillian Anderson
We can always spot her in famous TV shows. The-52 year-old actress also had to deny the role she was offered due to her family. She didn’t want to spend a long time away from her six and four-year-old children. Though it’s not clear about the role she was offered, many people speculated that she might have been asked to play Cersei Lannister or the Red Witch.
She could have rocked both of those roles but family comes first number.
7. Charlie Hunnam
Who doesn’t know about this King Arthur The Legend of Sword actor. No doubt he certainly has the beard to play warrior or king in the Game Of Thrones World Of Westeros. The production offered him a cameo, but he had to turn down the offer as he was busy in other shootings. While promoting the King Arthur film in 2017, he said that he would love to play a role in the series in the future, but alas he couldn’t get a chance to land on any role.
8. Jonathan Pryce
This 73-year-old “The Two Pope” actor played the role of High Sparrow in the original Game Of Thrones series, but that wasn’t the first role that he was offered. Game Of Thrones wanted Jonathan back in the start but he turned down the role as he found the names and dialogue strange and weird. This is what he had to say: “It’s not for me.”
However, he accepted the role of High Sparrow because he thought it was a great character, well truly it was.
