Former Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan (UI), Prof Abel Olayinka was given a disdainful valediction after the end of his five-year tenure yesterday.

In a video recently posted on Instagram, some group of men believed to be the University staffs, were spotted with brooms sweeping off the pathway leading to the former Vice Chancellor’s office. They also sang a scornful song as they carried out their scheme.

During the early days of his reign as VC, the school witnessed unprecedented growth and development. This was evidenced by the establishments and approvals of new departments, faculties, centres and courses.

However, all his achievements were dwarfed by unpleasant events and recent crises in the university management system coupled with a plethora of strikes. Today, the outgoing VC is being described, by many Professors who supported his emergence, as the worst the University has ever had. What a twist of fate?
