The government of Anambra State has announced the immediate closure of Blessed Wisdom Model School in Onitsha due to an incident where a two-year-old student was severely beaten.
Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the Commissioner for Education, made the announcement following a report that the child, Ifechukwu Egbuninwe, suffered serious injuries as a result of the beating. The report revealed that the school’s owner did not inform the parents about the child’s injuries or provide any first aid.
The Commissioner criticized the school’s management for their disregard for human life and their failure to respond to the situation appropriately. Despite being invited to explain the incident, the proprietress refused to appear, leading to the decision to close the school.
A committee has been established to investigate the matter, and the proprietress has been advised to appear before the committee, with the consequences of non-compliance being arrest and prosecution.
