The members of the panel established by the Anambra State Government to investigate the truth behind Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result were surprised when she confessed to forging the result on her own, without anyone’s knowledge or assistance.
Mmesoma made this revelation in the presence of her school principal and the Anambra State Education Secretary. Consequently, the panel compiled its report and submitted it to the state government, effectively implicating the 19-year-old student.
Fabian Benjamin, the Head of Public Affairs and Protocol of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), released the report to the press on Saturday, stating that Mmesoma also acknowledged that the account given by the JAMB officials accurately described what had transpired.
“She also confessed that she manipulated the result herself, without any help, using her Airtel phone number. She then proceeded to a cybercafé called Prisca Global Computers in Uruagu, Nnewi, where she printed the manipulated results,” Benjamin explained.
The panel’s report stated that Mmesoma did not provide any reason for her forgery. Benjamin further added, “In Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme’s testimony, she admitted in the presence of her principal and the Education Secretary that the account provided by the JAMB officials was an accurate description of what happened. She also confessed to manipulating her UTME results alone, using her Airtel phone number. She printed the manipulated results at the cybercafé. The committee attempted to determine the motive behind her actions, but Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme remained silent.”
The Principal of Anglican Girls’ Secondary School in Uruagu, Nnewi, and the Education Secretary of the Diocese of Nnewi (Anglican Communion) expressed shock at the incident in their respective statements. Mmesoma admitted to deceiving the school, her immediate family, and the state government by manipulating her UTME results in their presence.
It is worth recalling that JAMB had previously accused Mmesoma of manually inflating her UTME score from 249 to 362. Despite having her original result withdrawn and receiving a three-year ban from taking the UTME due to her fraudulent actions, Mmesoma continued to insist that her result was genuine, stating that she had printed it from the JAMB portal. Additionally, she had falsely portrayed herself as the top scorer in the 2023 UTME, which led to her being awarded a N3 million scholarship from InnThe members of the panel established by the Anambra State Government to investigate the truth behind Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result were surprised when she confessed to forging the result on her own, without anyone’s knowledge or assistance.
