Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has recommended two years for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
NYSC is a scheme set up by the government to involve Nigerian graduates in nation building and the development of the country for the period of one year.
But the governor, while speaking on Channels Television on Wednesday, suggested that an extra year be added to the scheme to enable corps members focus on military training.
- In his words, “If you leave me, the NYSC I will say should be two years. One year for compulsory military training and the other year for the social works that they are doing now, so that anybody who graduate as an NYSC person can know how to handle the gun, can know how to defend himself.”
