The Coordinator of ASUU in the South-South region, Dr. Aniekan Brown made this known during a press conference in Calabar.
According to his statement which is documented on Official_ASUU Twitter page, the members of the union cannot return to classrooms on empty stomach.
Dr. Brown alleged that their members have not been paid salaries for periods ranging from four to nine months, and as such will not return to classes until they are paid.

He also advised the Federal Government against adopting the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) which the union considers unsuitable for the university system, rather they should go for the recently invented University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).
Finally he called for the cooperation and understanding of the general public on ASUU’s stance on the aforestated outstanding issues.
