The Abia State Government plans to significantly review and re-accredit private schools in the state to meet required standards, aiming to revamp the education sector.
The Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eme Uche, emphasized that this measure is not intended to target anyone but is essential for upgrading the system. Additionally, the government intends to launch the “Reclaim Our Schools Initiative,” handing rehabilitated public schools to host communities for better management and security.
Governor Alex Otti’s administration is committed to restoring the state’s education system, with zero tolerance for sub-standard schools. The welfare of teachers will also be prioritized to ensure Abia children receive quality education in a suitable environment.
Stakeholders, including the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) and others, expressed support for these transformational efforts and emphasized the importance of investing in education for societal development.
