Interview is a medium through which companies get to know they kind of person, that they want to employ. Preparing for an interview is as important as constructing your curriculum vitae. It’s more like you presenting yourself to the company where you intend to work and convincing them that you are capable.
Some persons are not usually comfortable with going for interviews due to the fear of having people who are much more experienced than they are asking them questions.
Interviews should be properly planned before embarking on one, from the prospective employees dressing to communication prowess.
1. Appear confident
Your dressing should speak confidence, avoid loud or dresses that are too colourful. Blue and grey are advised to wear to an interview.
For females, avoid revealing clothes, apply light make-up, and normal length heels if you must go on one.
2. Have a fresh breath
You wouldn’t want to make everyone around you uncomfortable by having a bad breath. Before entering the interview room, use a mint chew gum or some mouth wash to do away with any offensive odour that may come from the mouth.
3. Make yourself comfortable
There is a tendency that you may be tensed, but don’t let your interviewer know about it. Keep calm and sit upright, look into the eyes of your interviewer to lessen the tension.
Avoid glancing through everything that is in the interview room.
When you get into an interview room, make a compliment on the dress or hairstyle of your interviewer, try to bring up a little interaction before the interview proper. It will help ease the stress on your part.
4. Have a general knowledge
Don’t go to an interview prepared only for the field that you are to occupy, have a knowledge of virtually every discipline.
Most times interviewers may avoid asking you direct questions about your field, rather they bring it to a general view.
5. Be tactical about answering questions
Never say that you do not know the answer to a question. Find a way to tell your interviewer that you have an idea of what they ask.
Tactically answer all questions thrown to you.
