Following mass production of face masks for Nigerians by the Cross River State garment factory in the wake of the COVID-19 global pandemic, two regulatory bodies, the National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC and the Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON, have given separate approvals for the face mask being produced at the facility.

Acting Managing Director of the factory, Joseph La’shakara Edet disclosed this Tuesday shortly after recieving the letter of approval from officials of the regulatory bodies.

“I’m very delighted to announce that Cross River State Garment factory has just received administrative approvals from NAFDAC and an endorsement from SON. What this means basically is that the garment factory is ready to go global with it’s products with the much acclaimed NAFDAC number now to be added to our facemasks”, Edet said.

Continuing the MD said: “These approvals were got after a rigorous and thorough process by the officials of NAFDAC on our facemask. They ran tests on our masks, looked at the double layering of the mask and also looked at the 95 replica that we have. After seeing the first layer of the polycithene fabric and seeing the second layer inside as the lining fabric then another layer to cover up, they were quite satisfied and that is why we have been granted these approvals”

Edet attributed all the achievements recorded so far to the proactive measures of Governor Ben Ayade, adding that with all the support the Governor has given the factory he was ready to meet up with production targets .

According to him, ” I’d like to specially appreciate our amiable governor, Sir Ben Ayade without whom we would not have been able to get this approval today. He has indeed shown that this factory is dear to him with all the motivation he has given us and I can assure Cross Riverians that we will produce quality face masks for them to use in order to continually keep our state free of Covid 19 “
