David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has taken legal action against Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child, Imade. In a motion filed by his legal team, including Dr. Olaniyi Arije and Okey Barrah, at the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024, Davido seeks joint custody of Imade. Alternatively, the singer requests unrestricted access to his daughter. The case, identified as LD/1587PMC/2024, lists Davido as the applicant and Sophia Momodu as the sole respondent.
Davido’s court filings detail the history of his relationship with Momodu, which led to Imade’s birth on May 14, 2015. Although their relationship ended years ago, both parties initially agreed to co-parent their daughter amicably. Davido emphasized his commitment to Imade’s well-being, highlighting his consistent financial support for her education and living expenses. He stated:
“It is on record that I have been responsible for the payment of all the school fees of my daughter to provide her with the best education possible and to meet all her educational needs without a hitch.”

He also noted his contributions towards housing, mentioning that he financed the rent for the apartment where Momodu and Imade currently reside.
In his efforts to provide a stable and secure environment for his daughter, Davido purchased a N200 million apartment in a gated community in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos. The apartment offers amenities such as a swimming pool and 24-hour power and water supply. However, Momodu reportedly declined the offer, insisting that Davido continue paying N5,000,000 annually for their current rented accommodation.
To further ensure Imade’s comfort, Davido provided a Range Rover Sport Utility Vehicle for Momodu and Imade’s use, particularly for transporting Imade to and from school.
This legal move underscores Davido’s dedication to being an active part of his daughter’s life, despite the challenges posed by his past relationship with Momodu. The court’s decision will be closely watched, as it will significantly impact the future of Imade’s upbringing and Davido’s role as a father.
