The entry and exit gates to the Oyo State secretariat in Ibadan were locked by labor centers as part of a protest. The protest was due to issues such as payment of salary deductions, palliatives for workers, and an upward review of pension allowances.
The workers’ demands were to be addressed only by Governor Seyi Makinde, and no other government official. The protest involved various unions, including NLC, TUC, NUP, NULGE, and their affiliates.
The workers were also demanding payment of leave bonuses, gratuities for retirees, and the release of promotion letters for the years 2021 and 2022.
The state government requested an exhaustive dialogue with NLC to resolve the salary issues, stating that only three months of deductions were owed to the workers. The government emphasized its commitment to workers’ welfare despite economic challenges. They urged workers to resume their duties.
