The Rivers State Government has provided an explanation for dismissing more than 1,700 staff members who were hired to work at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni. The reason for their termination was irregularities found in the employment process.
During the final period of Chief Nyesom Wike’s tenure as governor, the state government recruited both academic and non-academic personnel for the university. However, approximately two months after Sir Siminialaye Fubara took office, the state government announced the cancellation of the employment exercise conducted at the university.
In a public announcement dated July 13th and signed by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom, it was stated that the employment process had numerous irregularities and did not meet the government’s standards. As a result, all individuals who were employed through this process and had been working for over six months were instructed to promptly return their employment letters and staff identity cards issued by the university.

Mmom emphasized that those engaged through this flawed process are now considered unemployed, and a new credible employment exercise will be conducted. The government expressed disappointment over the inconsistencies, irregularities, and blatant disregard for directives in the recent recruitment exercise at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt.
Consequently, the employment exercise carried out by the university’s management has been canceled, rendering all appointment letters null and void. The affected individuals are directed to return their appointment letters to the Registrar’s office of the institution, as well as any other employment-related items, such as ID cards, to the Head of Service, Rivers State, without delay.
