Chief Afe Babalola, the Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to implement comprehensive constitutional amendments to address political and social imbalances within the system.

Babalola emphasized the need to eliminate excessive allowances granted to former presidents, vice presidents, governors, deputy governors, federal and state lawmakers, as well as other political appointees, and to stop the humongous allowance. Furthermore, he proposed a prohibition on officeholders having foreign accounts.

During the 63rd yearly general meeting of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, themed ‘Promoting Public-Private Partnership for National Development,’ the Senior Advocate of Nigeria voiced his opinion.

He suggested that federal and state lawmakers should only receive sitting allowances instead of salaries, starting from the 10th National Assembly. Babalola criticized the exorbitant severance packages provided to political office holders upon leaving office, calling it unacceptable and urging its discontinuation for the progress of the country.

Additionally, he appealed to the Federal Government to prioritize the security of lives and property to attract foreign investors to the nation. Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, supported this stance and encouraged all levels of government to embrace Public-Private Partnership initiatives as a potent catalyst for economic development and prosperity.
