President Bola Tinubu, exercising his authority as granted by the 1999 Constitution (as amended), signed a new amendment to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This occurred on Thursday, at the State House, within his eleventh day in office as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.
The President endorsed the “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Fifth Alteration) (No.37), 2023,” which was presented by the outgoing 9th National Assembly.
The Constitutional amendment ensures the uniformity of retirement age and pension rights for judicial officers, along with addressing other related matters.
During the signing of the amendment Bill, Tinubu expressed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary, upholding the rule of law, and empowering judicial officers to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
