The petition incited by Reno Omokri against Lagos State ex-Governor Bola Tinubu has become “the highest ever against a politician” in Nigeria, according to the former aide to Goodluck Jonathan.

Omokri yesterday invited his fans on twitter to sign a petition calling for Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the national leader of the All Progressives Congress Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu on money laundering.

“Fellow Citizens,

“Please sign this petition calling on @OfficialEFCC, to investigate Bola @AsiwajuTinubu for contravening the Money Laundering Act, by ferrying bullion vans to his house on election eve!. Nobody is above the law”

According to an image he uploaded recently on his twitter page, the petition he started via online platform Change.org has garnered over 10,000 signatures, which is said to be the highest against a Nigerian politician.

“We set a record! In one day, our petition for EFCC to investigate Bola @AsiwajuTinubu for contravening the Money Laundering Act garnered 10,000 signatures. The highest ever for a petition against a politician,” he stated on twitter.

Meanwhile, research seems to point to the fact that e-petitions aren’t really worth anything in influencing change in Nigeria.

So what’s the point of getting those signatures, if they don’t count. Well, let’s wait and see how things unfolds.
