See ways to live a healthy life as a sickle cell patient.

•Take more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and protein. Your diet should be balanced.

•Avoid extreme temperatures
Extreme heat or cold temperatures could trigger health crises.

• Stay hydrated always
Being dehydrated can increase your risk of sickle cell crisis. Take more water if you’ll engage in physical activities.

• Don’t overwork yourself
Getting intensely involved in activity could cause stress which is a trigger for sickle cell disease.

• Avoid smoking
Smoking can trigger acute chest syndrome (a lung condition). When this happens, the sickle cell sticks together and blocks oxygen from getting into your lungs.

• Maintain hygiene
Infections and common illnesses can be serious issues for sickle cell patients, so they should pay keen attention to what they eat, and wash their hands and whatever they eat properly.

• Take your medications seriously
Any medication you take should be as prescribed, and you should also go for regular checkups and medical tests.

• Exercise
But this should be done in moderation. Be sure to speak with your doctor before starting an exercise routine.

• Get enough sleep
Getting enough sleep will help enhance your overall well-being.
