The New York Times, a multiple US and UK-based news outlet pulls Reporters out of Russia as Putin threatens imprisonment.
The New York Times announced on Tuesday that it will pull out Reporters from Russia temporarily. This came after President Vladimir Putin banned the opposing information about the fight against Ukraine.
Putin on Friday signed a new bill imposing a prison sentence of up to 15 years for those giving information that is against Russia’s government narrative on the war.
In the new legislation, Reporters who use the term “war” could be sentenced to prison.
Russia’s new legislation seeks to criminalize independent, accurate news reporting about the war against Ukraine. For the safety and security of our editorial staff working in the region, we are moving them out of the country for now,” a spokeswoman for The Times, Danielle Rhoades Ha, announced.
