A South Eastern Nigerian coach becomes first African to qualify a team for UCL playoffs

Ex-Nigerian international goalkeeper Emmanuel Ndubuisi Egbo has become the first black coach to win a major trophy with an European side and also qualify for UEFA Champions League playoffs.

The 46-year-old coach won the 2019/20 Albanian Superliga title with KF Tirana after second placed Kukesi lost to KF Vllaznia yesterday.

He is also on course to win his second trophy as a coach when KF Tirana face-off with Teuta in the Albanian Cup on the 2nd of August, 2020.

Egbo, a native of Aba (a South Eastern city of Nigeria) was appointed on December last year by Tirana and the Nigerian performed miracles, winning an incredible fifteen matches from a possible sixteen in all competitions.

His team was placed at the eighth position out of ten teams when he took over in December, after managing the goalkeeping department of the club.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Egbo was a member of the Super Eagles squad to that won the bronze medal in 2002 Africa Cup of Nations.

He played for NITEL Vasco Enugu, NEPA, Julius Berger, El-Masry, Moroka Swallows, Tirana, El-Masry and Bylis before hanging up his boots.
