The sitcom was created by Danny Kallus and it ran on three consecutive seasons on the WB Network from 1997 to May 1999. The show also received seven award nominations and it still remains one of the best family sitcoms of its time.

Naya Rivera is no new name when it comes to sitcoms. She was part of the Smirkai sitcom cast members. Rivera began her career as a child actress and she saw it grow to become one of the well-known actresses, model and even singer.
Rivera was best known for her roles in the “The Royle Family”, “Glee” and many more. Unfortunately, Rivera was declared dead on July 2020 after her body was recovered from a lake around her hometown. She was only 33 years at that time.
Esther Scott
Esther Scott was one of the big names when it comes to acting as she inspired the young people to follow their dreams. She appeared in one episode of the sitcom show “Smart Guy” back in 1998. She began her career as a voice actress on “Star Wars” and later earned a spot in television shows including “Beverly Hills 90210”, “Sister, Sister” and many more.

Though she began her career in the late 90s, she was determined to make it big in the industry. However, her career was short-lived as she suffered a heart attack in 2020 which was the cause of her death. She was 66 years of age at that time.
Andre Rosie Brown

Brown was best known as Mr Jerome by fans of the show and he appeared in only one episode back in 1998. Though his role in the sitcom was short, it was unforgettable. Sadly Andre Rosie Brown passed away in 2006.
Carmen Philpai
Carmen Philpai popularly known as the Janitor by fans of the sitcom Smart Guy is another cast member from the show that has actually passed away in real life. Philpai appeared in one episode of the show back in 1998 and his role was memorable.
Philpai died back in 2003 at the age of 80 years and the cause of his death still remains unknown to the general public. Before his demise, Philpai had a successful career as a character actor and he starred in a lot of films and television shows.
Len Lesser
Len Lesser is another American character actor from the sitcom Smart Guy that has died in real life. Lesser was popularly known as Sydney by fans of the show and he appeared in one episode of the show back in 1998.
He was best known for his role as Uncle Leo in the sitcom “Seinfeld.” Len Lesser also served in the military in February 2011. Lesser died of cancer-related pneumonia at the age of 88 years at his home in Burbank California.
