Ways to identify a scam and how to avoid being scammed.

Scammers can be in person, through emails, post, phone or text.

These days the rate of scam rate is becoming alarming as people fall prey to it everyday.

Sees ways to identify scams;

  • General greetings rather than personal- many scammers tend to use generic greetings while communication in order not to flip while trying to guess the name or gender of the person they are trying to reach out to. Either through mails or phone calls.
  • They will always demand you to use an unusual payment request like gift cards, iTune cards, preloaded debit cards or virtual currency like Bitcoin
  • Most scammers do not have a good command of spoken or written English.
  • Some of their calls come inform of a pretence from your bank or an organisation.
  • They can also pretend to alert you of fake emergencies that demands immediate transfer of money.

 

How to avoid being scammed:

  • Avoid giving your personal information in response to a request.
  • Be aware that cooporate organisations do my call email or text you to ask for your personal information.
  • If answer strange calls, talk to trusted friends around.
  • Always choose difficult passwords for your electronic devices.
  • Be careful if any details that request for your details.
  • Protect your WiFi network and put a password if possible and be careful not to use public computer or WiFi hotspot.
  • Be careful while shopping online and you need to pay with virtual currencies.
  • Don’t click or download anything you don’t trust.
  • Protect your computer with spam filters, anti-virus software and make sure to keep these programs up to date.
